The other big news from yesterday was being faster than my Dad for the first time ever. We tied at the Frost Giant back in January, but I felt he held up a little bit for me in that race and this time he was running hard. Of course, I think this change in the finish order has a lot to do with Dad being 69, but it was cool for me to "win". I think he was proud of me. He also came in first for his age (he is at the high end of his age group), so that probably eased the pain of having me pass him.

Mud Hen
So, yesterday was a big day for me. I ran the Mud Hen 5K here in town and was able to finish faster than in Chicago! A few things that make this a big deal... It was cold and windy and I have been battling bronchitis all week. I was really pleased to finish at 25:15 and feel like I can get to a sub 25 minute race and a sub 8:00 split. This would match my running success when I was in my 20's!

Really?
One of those days that I feel like God smiled on me. How did this all work out to be okay in the end? Baseball got better and Jerrod said he was done. Lacrosse got better by accident and I committed to a marathon.
Nice work old man.

Bronchitis
I kinda like being sick sometimes.. nothing too bad, but just a little rasp to my voice. However, getting bronchitis and having a race to run on Saturday totally sucks.
In other news, my job still sucks.
Glee is so well written.

Chicago
So we took a long weekend trip to Chicago and loved it! I got in a race and two good runs and we dined like aristocrats. So nice to see Glenn and Tiffany together - I hope they can be re-united in the same city soon.
This trip has pretty much sealed the running a marathon bug. With Glenn and Tiffany on board, I feel like it will keep me motivated and on track to really make it happen. Scary and fun all at the same time.
Good night reader.

A few more weeks
I think I can make it... I think I can. Just a few more weeks left in this stupid job and then I can enjoy working again. I think it is so important to enjoy your work and I haven't for too long. On the upside, I am totally getting my way on classes for next year! AP US History and AP US Gov? Are you kidding me? Yatzee!!!! This is such great news for me.. not for James.

1/4 update...
So, I started a running journal on New Year's Day. I was updating it from the past week when I realized thatI had hit the 1/4 year mark. Here are the stats:
75 Days of running
240.1 miles
-9 lbs
Pretty cool! I'm hoping that I will be able to get up to 1,000 miles by New Year's Eve.
Went to dinner last night to watch the Final Four with some friends in Boulder. Games were fine, didn't care too much about who won - although I was happy to see Duke win. In the conversation, Kathy (friend) was talking about running a marathon. I had pretty much lowered my sight to a half marathon, but she really got me thinking about trying it this year. Several good reasons to do it this year include doing it in my 40th year and ramping up my miles to get to my 1,000 mile goal. I'm going to look at some options and see if I can get this into my work schedule.

Been a few days...
So I fell off the blogging wagon. Back in the saddle! Nice mixture of metaphors? Anyway, I guess this week really, really sucked. Parent complaints almost everyday, other people making bad choices... 4 weeks left in this stupid, stupid job. The upside is this is a nice weekend - no games and some nice plans to watch the Final Four and see family. I like having some plans to look forward to in the weekend. I am a social butterfly.
I have joined the Two Gomers Run A Marathon "Fast Food Free April". I've added the challenge to avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup. The extra challenge is not having total control over what people are making at times... so I guess I am cutting out HFCS where I have a choice.
A few nice runs this week after I got over my fever. The downside on the runs today where the wind and getting texts about work.
